Apple(tm) Blues(Not tm)

I got this Apple iPod recently. It proved me again what Apple's target audience is: ones that do not know even the 'T' in Technology.

They want to keep everything simple. So far so good. To keep it simple, they make counter intuitive decisions on our behalf! That is stretching the meaning of "simple" too far that it hurts. When we are used to maintaining everything as files and folders, here comes iPod that says, By default iPod will not allow you to save music as files and folders. But then you can go ahead and shoot on your own foot if you are that particular.

There is a play/pause button on the front but no stop button! And the documentation talks about how to reset but not about how to stop!! By mistake I held down the wrong end of the jog button for six seconds and then realized it is to stop. duh!

Oh! BTW, you need a computer to charge the batteries. Alternatively, you can buy an extensive universal adapter to charge them. I mean, who is going to buy more than one of these gizmos to require a universal adapter?

Hmmm.... Somehow we always have to choose between the devil and the deeps**t. Isn't there a clean and neat choice available somewhere?

3 years ago I was in the market for an mp3 player. my options were very limited. but I found an mp3 player that is 100x better than the latest gen iPod.

only caveat to this mystery mp3 player is it's name. You heard of "iRiver"?? more than 2x the battery life of 1st gen iPod. $325 for 20gb iRiver vs. $400+ iPod at that time. Has several types of navigation. Works like an HDD. Use it like an HDD. Also has meta tags navigation, if you like that sort of thing. FM Tuner, not that I needed it. A voice recorder for keeping notes to yourself. Came with a nice leather cover. EASY TO NAVIGATE. Comes with a regular charger. DING DING DING, we have a WINNER!

everytime I see an iPod, I just laugh at how pathetic they are. I just hate how 3rd party companies have jumped on the iFad bandwagon and create accessories for their prorietary input/output system, rather than creating accessories for universally used USB ports for other players.

I feel bad for you, for your purchase. Check out a new gen iRiver, Zune, GigaBeat. BTW, iRiver came out with a photo/video player before iFad.

I got to give Apple props on one thing though: Marketing!
